↵ What Does a Line Break Remover Do?

A line break remover joins text that has been split across multiple lines. Instead of manually deleting each break, the tool can replace removable line breaks with a space, comma, semicolon, custom separator or nothing at all.

Example using a space
Before:
The quick brown
fox jumps over
the lazy dog.

After:
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

This is useful when copied text contains unwanted wrapping, or when a vertical list needs to be converted into another plain-text format.

⚙️ Choose How Lines Are Joined

Different text-cleaning jobs need different separators. The tool therefore provides several joining methods.

Single Space Best for joining wrapped sentences and ordinary prose into continuous text.
No Separator Removes the break without inserting another character. Useful only when the surrounding text should touch.
Comma / Semicolon Useful for turning one-item-per-line lists into inline lists.
Custom Separator Enter your own short separator when the predefined options do not match your task.

Preserve Paragraph Breaks

One of the most useful options on this page is Preserve paragraphs. When enabled, ordinary line breaks inside a paragraph are joined, while blank lines continue to separate paragraphs.

Input
This paragraph was
wrapped onto several
short lines.

This second paragraph
was also wrapped.

With paragraph preservation enabled and a space separator, the result becomes:

Output
This paragraph was wrapped onto several short lines.

This second paragraph was also wrapped.

This is often more useful than removing every newline indiscriminately because the document’s basic paragraph structure can remain readable.

📋 Useful Ways to Join Lines

  • Copied PDF text: join unwanted visual line wrapping when the copied text contains actual newline characters.
  • Email drafts: convert manually wrapped lines into continuous paragraphs.
  • Lists: turn one item per line into comma-separated or semicolon-separated text.
  • Content editing: clean text copied from systems that insert unwanted line breaks.
  • Notes: combine short lines while optionally preserving separate paragraphs.
  • Data preparation: create a simple inline sequence using a chosen separator.

Always review the output when line breaks carry structural meaning in the original content.

🧠 Line Breaks Are Not Always Errors

A line break may represent visual wrapping, a paragraph boundary, a list item, a verse, a code instruction or part of a structured data format. Removing it can therefore change how the content is interpreted.

For ordinary prose copied with unwanted wrapping, replacing breaks with spaces often makes sense. For a list, commas or another separator may be more appropriate.

Check structured content before processing

Avoid blindly removing line breaks from programming code, CSV-like data, addresses, poetry, configuration files or other formats where new lines may have a specific purpose.

✂️ What Does “Trim Line Edges” Mean?

When this option is enabled, spaces and tab characters immediately before or after the text on each line are removed before the lines are joined.

Input lines:
   first line
   second line

Joined with a space:
first line second line

This helps prevent accidental doubled spacing around the separator. It does not intentionally change spaces inside the individual lines.

🔎 Remove Line Breaks vs Remove Extra Spaces

These tools solve different formatting problems.

  • Remove Line Breaks: joins text located on separate lines.
  • Remove Extra Spaces: cleans unnecessary horizontal whitespace such as repeated spaces and tabs.
  • Text Cleaner: is useful for more general plain-text cleanup tasks.

If your text contains both unwanted newlines and repeated spaces, you may use the relevant tools in sequence and review the output after each step.

📝 How to Remove Line Breaks

  2. Select what should replace removable line breaks.
  3. If needed, choose a custom separator.
  4. Keep Preserve paragraphs enabled if blank lines separate meaningful paragraphs.
  5. Choose whether line-edge spaces and tabs should be trimmed.
  6. Click Remove Line Breaks.
  7. Review the number of breaks removed and the resulting line count.
  8. Copy the result or download it as a plain-text file.

❓ Remove Line Breaks FAQs

What does Remove Line Breaks do?

It replaces removable newline characters with your selected separator, allowing text from several lines to be joined together.

Can I join lines with spaces?

Yes. Single space is the default option and is useful for joining wrapped prose into continuous text.

Can I remove line breaks without adding spaces?

Yes. Select Nothing as the separator. The adjacent text will then be joined directly, so review the result to make sure that is appropriate.

Can I convert lines into a comma-separated list?

Yes. Choose Comma + space to place a comma and a following space between joined lines.

Can I use my own separator?

Yes. Select Custom separator and enter a short separator of your choice.

Can the tool keep paragraph breaks?

Yes. With Preserve paragraphs enabled, blank-line paragraph boundaries are kept while ordinary line breaks inside each paragraph are joined.

Will it remove spaces inside sentences?

No. The line-edge trimming option targets spaces and tabs at the beginning and end of each line. It does not intentionally collapse ordinary spacing inside a line.

Should I remove line breaks from code?

Usually not without carefully reviewing the result. Line breaks can be meaningful in programming code, configuration files and structured data.

Can I download the result?

Yes. The processed text can be downloaded as a plain-text .txt file.

Is the Remove Line Breaks tool free?

Yes. You can use the tool without creating an account.
