Random Text Generator
Generate random words, readable placeholder sentences or paragraphs for layouts and testing, or build randomized text from your own source vocabulary.
Create Placeholder Text
Choose the built-in vocabulary for general placeholder copy, or switch to your own source text and generate randomized output from the words you provide.
How the Random Text Generator Works
ToolZippy’s Random Text Generator creates placeholder copy by randomly selecting words from a vocabulary and arranging them according to the output format you choose.
There are two source modes:
The generator does not use artificial intelligence to understand or rewrite the meaning of your text. It uses randomized word selection, so generated sentences are intended primarily as placeholder or test content.
Words, Sentences and Paragraphs
Random words
Word mode produces the exact number of word selections requested, up to 500. This can be useful for testing tags, text wrapping, spacing, search fields or layouts that need sample words.
Random sentences
Sentence mode creates the requested number of sentences. The sentence-length setting changes the approximate number of words placed in each sentence:
- Short: approximately 5–8 words.
- Medium: approximately 9–14 words.
- Long: approximately 15–22 words.
Random paragraphs
Paragraph mode creates the requested number of paragraphs. Each paragraph contains several independently generated sentences separated naturally for easier use in mockups and content layouts.
A quantity of 5 means five words in Word mode, five sentences in Sentence mode, or five paragraphs in Paragraph mode.
Using Your Own Source Text
Custom-source mode is useful when you want the output vocabulary to come from a particular subject, product, project or collection of terms.
For example, if your source contains:
design layout mobile responsive card button navigation content
the generator will randomly select from those extracted words when creating the requested output.
It does not preserve the original sentence order, grammar, argument, meaning or factual relationships. Because words are recombined randomly, the output may be grammatically awkward or semantically meaningless.
If the source text contains repeated words, repeated occurrences can make those words more likely to be selected. This means the source text can influence the distribution of the generated output.
When Random Placeholder Text Is Useful
- Testing website cards, columns and content blocks.
- Checking how a responsive layout handles different text lengths.
- Creating temporary copy for wireframes and prototypes.
- Testing typography, line height and paragraph spacing.
- Generating sample text for form fields or application interfaces.
- Creating dummy content for document templates.
- Testing text overflow and truncation behavior.
- Creating arbitrary word sets for demonstrations or exercises.
Placeholder text is generally best replaced with real content before a website, document or application is published. Real copy can have very different word lengths, headings, punctuation and structure.
What Does “Random” Mean Here?
For each word position, the generator selects one item from the active vocabulary. Repetition is allowed, so the same word can appear more than once.
This means two generations with identical settings can produce different results. It also means that a word appearing twice close together is possible and does not necessarily indicate an error.
The generator attempts to use the browser’s Web Crypto API for random selection when available. If that API is unavailable, it falls back to JavaScript’s standard pseudorandom generator.
This randomness is used to vary placeholder text. The tool is not designed for cryptographic keys, passwords, security tokens, official drawings or other security-critical random generation.
Capitalization and Punctuation
For sentence and paragraph modes, the Start with capital option capitalizes the first character of each generated sentence.
The Add punctuation option adds an ending mark to generated sentences. Most sentences use a period, with occasional question or exclamation marks to make placeholder blocks visually less repetitive.
These options affect presentation only. They do not make the randomly assembled words grammatically correct or convert the generator into a natural-language writing system.
Understanding the Output Statistics
After generation, the tool displays the number of whitespace-separated words and the total number of characters in the output.
The character count includes letters, spaces, punctuation and paragraph line breaks. These statistics can help when testing areas with approximate text-length requirements.
For more detailed analysis of existing content, use ToolZippy’s dedicated Word Counter, Character Counter, Paragraph Counter or Line Counter.
Browser Processing and Privacy
The generation logic on this page is designed to run with JavaScript in your browser. Custom source text does not need to be submitted to a separate text-generation service solely for this tool to create its randomized output.
That does not mean every part of the ToolZippy website operates locally. Normal website technologies such as hosting, analytics, consent management, security services or advertising may operate separately according to the site’s applicable policies.
For confidential, regulated or organization-controlled information, follow the data-handling rules that apply to you rather than relying on a general online text utility.
Random Text Generator FAQs
What is a random text generator?
It is a tool that creates sample text by selecting words from a vocabulary and arranging them into words, sentences or paragraphs. This ToolZippy generator is intended mainly for placeholder content and testing.
Can I generate random paragraphs?
Yes. Select Paragraphs as the output type, choose how many paragraphs you want and generate the text.
Can I generate only random words?
Yes. Select Words and enter the number of word selections you want, from 1 to 500.
Can I use my own words?
Yes. Select Use My Text and paste or type source content. The generator extracts words from that content and randomly selects from them.
Does the tool rewrite my text?
No. Custom mode does not intelligently rewrite or paraphrase the source. It extracts word tokens and recombines them randomly.
Will the generated sentences always make sense?
No. The words are selected randomly rather than generated by a language model, so sentences may be grammatically unusual or meaningless. They are intended as placeholder text.
Can the same word appear several times?
Yes. Each word position is selected independently, so repetitions can occur naturally.
What does sentence length control?
It controls the approximate number of generated words in each sentence. Short uses about 5–8 words, medium about 9–14 and long about 15–22.
Does the custom text leave my browser?
The randomization logic itself is designed to process the source text in your browser and does not need to send it to a separate text-generation service. Other normal website technologies may operate separately.
Is this the same as an AI text generator?
No. This tool does not attempt to understand a prompt or compose meaningful AI-generated writing. It randomly selects words from a built-in or user-provided vocabulary.
