Days Between Dates Calculator
Count the exact calendar days separating two dates. Get a clear breakdown into complete weeks and leftover days, with an optional inclusive count.
Calculate the days
Choose your dates below. Either date can come first.
How to use this calculator
Select a first date and a second date, then choose Calculate days. The default result is the number of calendar days between them, regardless of which date comes first. Use the checkbox when you specifically need to include both dates in the count.
Enter two dates using the calendar fields. Past and future dates are supported.
Keep the default elapsed-day calculation or turn on inclusive counting.
See total days, complete seven-day weeks, remaining days and decimal weeks.
Elapsed days vs. inclusive days
The difference between two calendar dates is not always the same as the number of dates included in a period. For example, September 1 to September 11 is 10 elapsed days. If you count both September 1 and September 11, the inclusive total is 11 days.
| Counting method | September 1–11 | Typical purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Elapsed days (default) | 10 days | How far apart two dates are |
| Inclusive days | 11 days | Counting every date in a period, including both endpoints |
How the calculation works
The calculator converts each selected calendar date to a UTC-based day number and subtracts the two values. Using UTC calendar dates avoids errors caused by local daylight-saving time changes. The absolute difference is used, so swapping the two dates does not change the total.
Elapsed days = |second date − first date| (measured in calendar days). Inclusive days = elapsed days + 1. Complete weeks are the total divided by seven, rounded down; remaining days are the remainder after those complete weeks.
Leap-year example
From February 28, 2024 to March 1, 2024, the elapsed difference is 2 days because 2024 includes February 29. From February 28, 2025 to March 1, 2025, the difference is 1 day.
What this tool does not count
The calculator does not exclude weekends, public holidays or non-working days. It also does not compare hours, minutes or time zones. It counts calendar dates only.
When is a days-between-dates calculator useful?
Check the calendar-day gap between submission dates, inspections or target completion dates.
Compare departure and return dates or count the dates in an event period.
Measure how many calendar days separate the beginning of a study plan and an exam.
For payroll, leave entitlements, immigration, legal filings and other formal calculations, confirm whether the governing rule uses elapsed days, inclusive days or working days before relying on a result.
Frequently asked questions
Does the order of the dates matter?
No. The calculator reports the absolute difference, so reversing the dates produces the same day count.
Does it count the first and last day?
By default, it measures elapsed days and does not count both endpoints. Turn on “Include both start and end dates” for inclusive counting.
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. Leap days are included automatically when they fall within the selected period.
Are weekends and public holidays excluded?
No. All calendar days are counted. Use a business days calculator for weekday-based calculations.
What happens if both dates are the same?
The elapsed-day result is zero. Inclusive counting gives one day because the selected date itself is included.
Is this the same as the Date Difference Calculator?
No. This tool focuses on total calendar days and weeks. The Date Difference Calculator expresses a period in years, months and days.
