Date Difference Calculator
Find the exact calendar interval between two dates in years, months and days. See the total number of days and equivalent weeks in one clear result.
Compare two dates
Choose a starting date and an ending date. The ending date must be the same as or later than the start.
This tool counts the interval between dates, excluding the starting date from the total-day difference.

How the Date Difference Calculator works
ToolZippy measures two different kinds of date difference. The calendar interval counts complete years and months from the start date, followed by the remaining days. The total-day difference counts calendar-day boundaries between the dates.
Months vary in length, so calendar years and months cannot be calculated accurately by simply dividing the day count by 365 or 30. The tool uses calendar progression and accounts for leap years.
Understanding the calculation
First, the calculator adds as many complete years as possible without passing the end date. It then adds complete months and counts the remaining days. When advancing from a date such as February 29 to a non-leap year, the day is clamped to the final valid day of the month.
The total-day calculation compares the calendar components at UTC midnight, preventing daylight-saving time shifts from changing the number of calendar days.
Practical examples
September 1 to September 21 is 20 calendar days.
January 31 to February 28 can be one calendar month under the clamped-month method.
February 28 to March 1 spans two days in a leap year, but one day in a non-leap year.
Where this tool helps
Use it to compare project milestones, travel dates, study schedules, anniversaries and other calendar events. It is particularly useful when you want both a human-readable years/months/days interval and a numeric day count.
Calendar days versus business days
This calculator includes Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. If you need to exclude weekends, use the Business Days Calculator. That tool counts Monday–Friday weekdays and may not reflect local public holidays or alternative working weeks.
Important: Legal, immigration, employment, financial and contractual deadlines may use inclusive counting, cut-off times or jurisdiction-specific rules. Verify important results with the relevant official authority.

Approximate weeks: Total days divided by seven, shown to two decimal places.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator include both dates?
No. It calculates the difference between dates. September 1 to September 2 equals one day.
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. Actual calendar dates and leap days are included in the calculation.
What if the end date is earlier?
The tool asks you to reverse the dates. It expects an end date that is not earlier than the start date.
Are months always treated as 30 days?
No. Calendar months use their actual lengths.
Are weekends excluded?
No. The difference includes all calendar days.
Why are weeks approximate?
Many date ranges are not exact multiples of seven days. The calculator displays fractional weeks.
Can I use this for official deadlines?
Use it for planning, but check the relevant official rules for inclusive counting, time zones and holidays.
