How to calculate a sale price
Multiply the original price by the discount rate to find the amount saved. Subtract that saving from the original price to get the sale price before tax.
For example, a product priced at 200 with a 25% discount costs 150. The saving is 50. The calculator above also handles a second sequential discount and a tax rate applied after discounts.
Two discounts are not added together
For a 20% sale followed by an extra 10% coupon on a 100 item, the first discount reduces the price to 80. The second discount reduces 80 to 72. The effective saving is 28%, not 30%.
Discount examples
| Original | Discount | Sale price | Saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80 | 10% | 72 | 8 |
| 160 | 25% | 120 | 40 |
| 250 | 20% | 200 | 50 |
| 900 | 15% | 765 | 135 |
| 1,200 | 40% | 720 | 480 |
Tax after discounts
If an item costs 100 and is reduced by 30%, the sale price is 70. With 5% tax on the discounted amount, the estimated total becomes 73.50. Actual checkout tax rules and rounding may differ.
Enter each offer separately to compare the amount payable, rather than relying on the advertised discount percentage alone.

Understanding the results
Discount savings vs. final price
“Total discount savings” measures the reduction from the original price before tax. “Final price” adds any tax entered to the discounted amount, so these values should not be confused.
Effective discount
The effective discount shows the total percentage reduction after both discounts. It is based on the original price and excludes tax.
Currency selection
The currency selector changes only the symbol displayed; it does not convert exchange rates. Enter all prices in the same currency.
