Daily Macro Calculator
Convert a daily calorie target into estimated protein, carbohydrate and fat grams. Choose your own macro percentages and instantly see how the calories are distributed.
Enter your daily calorie target and choose the percentage of calories you want from protein, carbohydrate and fat. The three percentages must total 100%.
How to Use the Macro Calculator
This calculator converts a calorie target and your chosen macronutrient percentages into approximate grams of protein, carbohydrate and fat per day.
- Enter your daily calorie target.
- Enter the percentage of calories you want from protein.
- Enter the percentage from carbohydrate.
- Enter the percentage from fat.
- Make sure the three percentages total 100%.
- Select Calculate Macros to see the estimated grams and calories for each macronutrient.
The calculator does not decide which macro split is appropriate for you. It converts the percentages you choose into grams.
How the Macro Calculation Works
Protein and carbohydrate are commonly estimated at approximately 4 kilocalories per gram, while fat is estimated at approximately 9 kilocalories per gram.
The percentages are entered as percentages of total calories. For example, a 30% protein setting means 30% of the entered daily calories are allocated to protein.
Example: 2,000 Calories at 30/40/30
Suppose the daily target is 2,000 kcal with 30% of calories from protein, 40% from carbohydrate and 30% from fat.
The displayed gram values are mathematical conversions of the selected percentages. They should not be interpreted as a personalized nutrition prescription.
What Is Protein?
Protein is one of the three main macronutrients. Dietary protein supplies amino acids used in many body structures and processes. In macro calculations, protein is generally counted at approximately 4 kcal per gram.
What Are Carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are another major macronutrient and are commonly counted at approximately 4 kcal per gram for this type of calorie-to-macro calculation.
The carbohydrate value produced by this calculator is based only on the percentage you enter. It does not separately calculate fiber, sugars or other carbohydrate categories.
What Is Dietary Fat?
Dietary fat is the most calorie-dense of the three macronutrients used here, at approximately 9 kcal per gram. Because of this higher energy value, the same number of calories corresponds to fewer grams of fat than protein or carbohydrate.
Why Must the Percentages Equal 100%?
The calculator divides the full calorie target among the three macronutrients. Therefore, protein, carbohydrate and fat percentages must add up to 100%.
For example:
| Protein | Carbohydrate | Fat | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30% | 40% | 30% | 100% |
| 25% | 50% | 25% | 100% |
| 35% | 35% | 30% | 100% |

Where Does the Daily Calorie Number Come From?
This Macro Calculator expects you to provide the calorie target. It does not independently calculate your energy requirement.
If you first want an estimate of daily calorie needs, you can use ToolZippy’s Calorie Calculator. The BMR Calculator estimates basal metabolic rate, while the TDEE Calculator can estimate total daily energy expenditure based on its inputs and assumptions.
Why the Gram Values May Not Recreate Calories Exactly
The calculator can display rounded gram values for readability. Because the underlying result may contain decimal grams, multiplying only the rounded displayed grams by 4 or 9 can produce a small difference from the original calorie target.
Food labels and nutrition databases may also use their own rounding rules, so real meal totals can differ slightly from a theoretical macro calculation.
Important Limitations
This tool performs a mathematical calorie-to-macronutrient conversion. It does not determine whether your calorie intake or selected macro percentages are appropriate for your health, training, body composition or personal circumstances.
It also does not account for factors such as food quality, micronutrients, fiber requirements, allergies, dietary restrictions or individual medical needs.
Health note: This calculator is for general informational and educational use. It is not medical or dietetic advice and should not be used as the sole basis for treatment, pregnancy-related nutrition decisions, eating-disorder management, medication changes or other high-stakes health decisions. Seek appropriately qualified professional guidance when needed.

Macro Calculator FAQs
What does this Macro Calculator calculate?
It converts a daily calorie target and your selected protein, carbohydrate and fat percentages into estimated grams and calories for each macronutrient.
How are protein grams calculated?
The calculator allocates the selected percentage of total calories to protein and divides those calories by approximately 4 kcal per gram.
How are carbohydrate grams calculated?
The selected percentage of calories assigned to carbohydrate is divided by approximately 4 kcal per gram.
How are fat grams calculated?
The selected percentage of calories assigned to fat is divided by approximately 9 kcal per gram.
Do my macro percentages have to total 100%?
Yes. Because the calculator distributes the complete calorie target among protein, carbohydrate and fat, the three percentages must add up to 100%.
Does the calculator recommend a macro ratio?
No. You choose the percentages yourself. The calculator converts those percentages into calories and grams rather than determining which ratio is appropriate for you.
Does the Macro Calculator calculate my calorie needs?
No. You provide the daily calorie target. ToolZippy has separate calorie, BMR and TDEE calculators for estimating energy-related values.
Why are the macro gram results rounded?
Macro calculations can produce decimal gram values. The calculator displays practical decimal values, and small differences can occur when rounded grams are converted back into calories.
Is this a personalized nutrition plan?
No. The result is a mathematical conversion of the calorie target and percentages you enter. It does not assess your individual nutrition requirements or provide medical or dietetic advice.
Is the ToolZippy Macro Calculator free?
Yes. The calculator is free to use in a modern web browser without creating an account.
