Electricity Cost Summary

LIVE RESULTS
ESTIMATED TOTAL FOR THE BILLING PERIOD$50.00

For 250.00 kWh over 30 billing days at $0.20/kWh

Energy Charge$50.00
Energy Quantity250.00 kWh
Average Cost per Day$1.67
30-Day Equivalent$50.00
Fixed Charge$0.00
Tax Amount$0.00
Energy Rate Including Tax$0.20/kWh
365-Day Equivalent$608.33
Energy charge = 250.00 kWh × $0.20 = $50.00. Add $0.00 in fixed charges and 0.0% tax on the subtotal.

Daily, 30-day and 365-day figures scale the entered 30-day billing-period cost. They are comparisons, not predictions of future usage.

kWh Cost Calculator: Formulas and Examples

A kilowatt-hour (kWh) measures electrical energy. Your electricity provider may charge a variable price for each kWh consumed, along with additional fixed fees or taxes. This calculator estimates the cost of a known energy quantity at one flat tariff.

How Do You Calculate kWh Cost?

Multiply the number of kilowatt-hours by the electricity price per kWh. If your consumption is in watt-hours, divide by 1,000 first. If it is in megawatt-hours, multiply by 1,000.

Energy Charge = Electricity Consumption (kWh) × Price per kWh
Total Cost = (Energy Charge + Fixed Fee) × (1 + Tax Rate ÷ 100)

Worked Example: 250 kWh at $0.20/kWh

  • Electricity consumed: 250 kWh
  • Electricity rate: $0.20 per kWh
  • Fixed fee: $0
  • Tax: 0%
  • Billing period: 30 days

Energy charge = 250 × $0.20 = $50.00.

Average daily cost = $50 ÷ 30 = $1.67.

Equivalent 365-day cost = $50 ÷ 30 × 365 = $608.33. This annualized amount assumes the same average daily usage and rate all year.

What Is the Difference Between kW and kWh?

Kilowatts (kW) measure electrical power, while kilowatt-hours (kWh) measure energy used over time. A 2 kW device running for three hours consumes approximately 6 kWh, assuming its power remains constant.

How Much Does 1 kWh Cost?

The price of one kWh depends on your electricity supplier, location, customer category and tariff plan. Enter the price from your utility bill rather than assuming that the example rate is valid in your area.

How Much Does 100 kWh Cost?

At a flat price of $0.20/kWh, 100 kWh costs $20 before fees and taxes. At $0.30/kWh, the same quantity costs $30. The relationship is linear only when the rate stays constant.

Can I Calculate Electricity Cost in AED?

Yes. Select AED and enter the price in dirhams per kWh. The tool formats the results in AED but does not retrieve UAE electricity tariffs or convert currencies.

Does This Tool Handle Tiered Tariffs?

No. This page is intended for quick calculations at one rate. For two-tier rates, fixed charges, discounts and taxes, use the Electricity Bill Estimator. Utility tariff rules can be more complex than either model.

What About Time-of-Use Electricity Rates?

If you pay different prices during peak and off-peak hours, calculate the energy consumed in each pricing period separately and add the results. The single rate entered here is not a live blended tariff.

Can I Use MWh for Larger Electricity Consumption?

Yes. One megawatt-hour equals 1,000 kilowatt-hours. For example, 2 MWh is 2,000 kWh; at $0.20/kWh, the energy charge is $400 before other charges.

Are Fixed Charges Included in Cost per kWh?

The displayed energy rate including tax excludes fixed fees because fixed fees do not scale with electricity consumption. The total bill includes any fixed fee you enter. To determine an effective all-in bill cost per kWh, divide the estimated total by kWh consumed, provided consumption is greater than zero.

How Accurate Is the Annual Equivalent?

The 365-day equivalent simply extends the average cost per day across a year. It is not a forecast of future electricity use. Seasonal changes, price changes and different billing periods may affect actual annual expenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the cost of kWh?

Multiply the electricity consumed in kWh by the price per kWh. Add fixed fees and taxes separately if applicable.

How much is 200 kWh at $0.15 per kWh?

The energy charge is 200 × $0.15 = $30, before additional charges.

How do I convert Wh to kWh?

Divide watt-hours by 1,000. For example, 5,000 Wh equals 5 kWh.

How many kWh are in 1 MWh?

One megawatt-hour equals 1,000 kilowatt-hours.

Can I calculate kWh cost in UAE dirhams?

Yes. Select AED and enter the tariff in AED per kWh. No exchange-rate conversion is performed.

Does the calculator include tax?

Yes, if you enter a tax percentage. It is applied to the sum of the energy charge and the optional fixed fee.

Can this calculate my complete utility bill?

Only when your bill follows the entered flat-rate assumptions. Tiered pricing, demand charges and other utility-specific adjustments are not modeled here.
